He’s such a good string character…I just hope his “Morally Apprehensible personal life” doesn’t get out. If it did they poor guy would probably be ruined.

Sad part is, this means it is straight late medieval times based. If it was early medieval times, late roman times based then it would not be morally wrong so to say.

It’s actually a mix of medieval-esque and 1700s ish time period.

did I just see that???

Nothing wrong with being gay

Homosexuality’s different or unexpected but certainly not crazy.

It’s like getting a cherry-flavored pepsi when you expected a regular pepsi. Similar to how I accidentally walked in on my roommate and found out he was gay (with another guy). XD

Nah, I’m not into guys. Just indifferent to a person’s sexual orientation. It was a little embarrassing but in my opinion, walking in on two guys having an intimate moment is no different than a guy and girl having an intimate moment. For me, It’s really about the atmosphere. My roommate’s the typical buff sexy jock type that would make any girl (or guy) fall for him. The fact that he’s gay just means that there’s less competition.

Yeah, I’m the optimistic type. XD

Look whilst I don’t get the attraction some guys have for other dudes, there’s nothing wrong with it as long as their not doing anything illegal (liking having sex in a crowded mall :P) but of course that applies to everyone.

Your welcome to your own opinion/preferences but that doesn’t give you the right to insult them. (ie. Saying there’s “Nothing right about it”

There is nothing right with Christianity or any other copy paste religion yet the wisest among us have yet to terminate them from existence so why must thou advocate against someone else’s own right to exist? if their existence does not hinder your own than it shouldn’t matter to you, don’t like people of the same gender? don’t date em. practice what your religion preaches not what bigots do. Preach love, tolerance, forgiveness and compassion.

Wow. Now first of all, what do you have against gay people? Don’t use the ‘I’m christian’ excuse, because i am too, an i find gay people not offensive in any way.
when god said ‘man shall not lay upon man’, he didn’t mean ‘if you see a homosexual, treat them like aliens, like they killed your family, or that they are devil worshipers.’ And i find it ironic how i’ve never met a mean gay person, but i find plenty of mean strait people.

I’m Christian too and I agree with you. Don’t treat them any different. Yeah they’re in sin, so what? So are you. So am I. All sin is equal. We should focus on spreading God’s love and show people that people like the Westboro Baptist Church should never even be called Christians. God doesn’t hate “fags”. He hates sin of all kind, but he loves his creations, and that includes you and me.

Morally reprehensible… balderdash.

I’m going to start using that now. Balderdash. Balder-dash. Balderdaysh. Bah humbug.

I have nothing against gay people, but i can’t help but say: HAH!!!! GAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
(nice job on the charecters though. it makes the comic seem realistic compared to comics where everyone is strait in them. nice job, skid)

So i’m guessing that the Clair and Kyler shi has sunk before it hit water, huh?

I meant “ship”. sorry.

It’d be a bit too easy if every male protagonist paired off with every female wouldn’t it? :3

On the plus side, it means Claire is still open for potential suitors. Then again, Kylar is the only one in a committed relationship at the start anyways.

OOOhhh so they’re a COUPLE! 😀
Okay now I get it why I felt weird that Joel is a guy. … I mean you know. … Their behavior. … That Joel was making breakfast. … Ya know like a nor… Ummm let’s just pretend I didn’t say all that and didn’t make myself look like a horrible person. O_o”

AGREED

Indeed, I second this notion, yes.

You realize he’s “agreeing” to what he thinks is an affirmation of homosexuality being morally wrong, correct?

……>.>… sorry, guess I was thrown off by the long hair on Kylar, I thought he was actually a she… >.>… it took a little too long for that to sink in for me I guess.. >.>

Don’t be dissing his hairstyle yo! Also really? There is absolutely no boobs there.. even Sesame has a little bit of something there (also hips).

actually, it was primarily the hair style that indicated a feminine voice, and then in the last comic, right when he was leaning over to move the tray, the way his shirt was hanging indicated there might have been SOME bust, plus it’s just the coloring of the under shirt I suppose >.>

Uhm okay, well it seems you weren’t the only one confused. Sorry. Neither Joel or Kylar speak/act in a stereotypical flamboyant-effeminate way. They are rather unassuming gay men that otherwise from a few grooming behaviors aren’t noticeable from any other male character.

However the Innkeep horse-guy is definitely a flamboyant gay type. The majority of our LGBT characters are pretty much like anyone else except their sexual preferences vary from our straight characters. We only have like 2 campy characters.

As I said in the previous page I imagine Kylar’s voice to be similar to Tom Hiddleson (the guy who played Loki from The Avengers/Thor) – his normal voice not the role of Loki. =p

I am glad that you went with this i am going to enjoy the story about these 2 and having a male couple in the comic like this i knew few that dont act like the typical stereotype homosexual, they act and look like heterosexual males the both of them and this is natural for them.

There’s lots of things that are unnatural in our day to day lives we do. Using a car,a computer,air-conditioning? Is a child having cancer natural? Is a person born without legs or arms natural?

If you use the argument that homosexuality is a choice, when did you chose to be heterosexual? Can you chose to be gay tomorrow if you wanted and it’s that easy?

As a follow up to Teh Phuufs…

The natural world has plenty of variation on what we think as male and female as well as sexuality. It depends on how strict your classifications are. A lot of things in life are seldom just either/or.

Going on about your own shallow definition of “natural” and pushing them on others is the kind of simplistic thinking that creates fanatics.

I admit, I am a fanatic when it comes to this. People who meet me are usually surprised to find I have this attitude because how it seems (in their minds) to differ from my attitude on all other forms of discrimination.

Believe it or not, there are several lesbians and homosexuals openly expressing themselves in the college where I’m studying. There are even two in the Pathfinder group I play in every weekend.

They know I am fine as long as they don’t ‘push’ their life style on me. They are fine people and I’m sure they wish otherwise, but I will never accept the life-style as normal (and they accept this).

It’s fine that you have your own opinion/belief on this but this isn’t the right place to say “homosexuality is wrong.” This comment section is supposed to about the comic. This comic is not about homosexuality but simply has a couple male characters in an intimate relationship.

You are better off taking your opinions on homosexuality to a place that promotes the debate of homosexuality. Otherwise you are just asking for trouble.

and thats how it should be i tell my friends {who are gay} the same thing i respect you and your way of life but dont push anything onto me please and we get along fine
OF course they ask are we allowed to make in front of things that when i do stupid things and such… and my response is of course you can as long as i can do the same back to you.. { the 2 that are gay i grew up with them and its funny i haven’t offended them and they haven’t offended me in the 33 years i known them, which is funny because when we joke around some there other friends talk to them and they look at them strange, because they expect them to get angry with me and the 2 are rolling on the ground laughing at when i joke around with them

wrong, who defines whats natural and whats not.. right, nature is what makes animals do whats is natural to them, hence the gay dog meme and i can tell you its true my friends has a gay dog and straight dog and they recently found out that one was gay.

wait wait wait, he’s gay, or is that a flat chested girl?

He treasures his position in the military? Since his profile obviously shows he’ll be joining Sesame’s party, it is obvious his ‘secret’ is discovered and he is rightfully cashiered for it.

There are reasons homosexuality is not tolerated in military circles (any more than that unit is forced to by ‘powers that be’). History has shown it lowers moral and low moral kills.

No matter what you may think of military, their job is to kill people and break things. In combat, Known homosexuals die right after bad leaders (and sometimes before).

Oh contraire, boyo; in Ancient Greece homosexuality was *welcomed* in the military, and lovers were kept in the same unit whenever possible. They believed the practice would raise morale, and that the soldiers would fight more resolutely knowing their significant other’s lives depended on it.
You think gays should be stripped from the military? Because I’m fairly certain the gays and lesbians in *your* country’s armed forces who risk their lives on a daily basis for your sake would be *thrilled* to hear that.

dude, you don’t know if that happens, so stfu.
and no, the military’s job is not to kill people and break things. in fact, they try to make the opposite happen. they don’t enjoy slaughtering others, but when there’s no way make peace, they must resort to that. I’m sure your country is very proud of you for saying that underthought statement. also, no one should be kicked from the military if they’re gay. you’re starting to sound like one of the douchebags on C.O.D, who calls people ‘fag, gay, homo, faggot,’ etc. as an insult. if your underdevelouped mind can’t take the thought of man on man, or woman on woman, you should just go lock yourself away forever, because society can’t stand douches like you. and one more thing: KNOWN STRAIGHT PEOPLE DIE BEFORE AND AFTER BAD LEADERS, TOO!

Actually I was also under the impression it was a woman, and thought “from a man in my position” was implying that the military was against high ranking females or something hence why “she” would try and adhere to how a man of the position would act. Well at least I know now xD

I have to admit, when I saw the first concept picture of Kylar several months back my initial reaction was “awww she’s cute”, I of course read in the bio later that Kylar was male, and I was simply like “oh, my mistake”.

There is nothing wrong with long hair on guys, I wish I had hair like that sometimes, but at least in that initial pic it just made him look a little effemine to me, though I have no trouble now seeing he is male. As far as the flat chest and small hips, there are women that have it that bad off, just like Kibbles has it that good off XD. I like to call those mousey girls, (no insult intended at all).

Oh pleeeease tell me Kylar is a large ham

Kylar can speak with a loud-booming voice, as per expected who is a top-dog in the military having to bark orders and command authority. He also likes to give over-the-top speeches be it motivational, about justice or ravings about his past experiences. ‘When I was a boy I was inspired by a charming tale that told of.. blahblahblah’. Next to Claire he is the most ‘talky’ of the characters.

He doesn’t act like a villain, more like a cheesy-super hero or boyscout at times. However he knows when to be polite/proper and civilized too.

as in someone who’s dialogue is filled to the brim with UTTER MAGINIFICENCE! or basically someone like Guy or Bang Shishigami, you know, full of energy and really drumming up their dialogue, comedically dramatic or something like that, I’m having trouble thinking of appropriate words for it

You read the page right? Kylar refers to himself as a man – Joel pretty much a male-only name. They also have no boobs/hips/eyelashes that otherwise would indicate female.

Also why would their relationship be taboo if they were in a heterosexual relationship?

Actually I was also under the impression it was a woman, and thought “from a man in my position” was implying that the military was against high ranking females or something hence why “she” would try and adhere to how a man of the position would act. Well at least I know now xD

Well, it figures.
Many of the other webcomics are including lesbian/homosexual couples, why shouldn’t this one.

Was some law passed that says webcomics have to show ‘alternative lifestyles’ or something like that?

And before anybody starts flaming me for not embracing this, go jump in a lake (preferably one a volcano changed to sulfuric acid).

I am not a ‘homophobe’. I am not afraid of homosexuals. I simply hate them. Homosexuality is unnatural.

Thankfully, this comic is of such quality, having a minor character like this won’t completely ruin my enjoyment of it.

…and this is where all my respect for you flies out the window. How the Hell do you know a gay or lesbian person is “unnatural” if that’s the way nature made them? If straight people were a 10% minority would they be *unnatural too? News flash boyo; the only “unnatural” kind of sexuality is the *lack* of it.
You dislike someone not because of *who* they are, but *what* they are? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the unbleached face of prejudice and racism the world over.

Homosexuality is not natural. At least, not outside genetic defects.

Consider this, homosexuality does NOT produce offspring, thus any ‘survival traits’ are not passed down to the next generation. In deed, there is no ‘next generation’ according to homosexuality. If homosexuality were genetically based, it’s die out after just a few generations.

Homosexuality is environmentally or mentally based. Something in the individual’s background made the person less secure around members of the opposite gender.

Granted, in the rare individual, there may be a genetic deviation that induces it, but that’s a birth defect that expresses itself at puberty. In no way should it be considered ‘normal’.

As to someone that doesn’t respect me because of my attitude on this, I… don’t… care.
I hate homosexuality in all its forms. I do have some around me, but they know my attitude and accept it (as I accept their existence). They don’t push it on me, I don’t push my opinion on them, and we get along in other aspects of life without any problems.

…You don’t have a very firm grasp of how genetics works, my friend. Genes and gene heritage are very complex, where different combinations of the same exact allele can have widely different affects. The latter phenomenon is known as “balanced polymorphism,” and as an example we can look at sickle-cell anemia. Should a person have only *one* allele in their genetic makeup the condition is basically harmless, and in fact results in increased resistance to malaria (hence its prevalence in tropical regions). However, the presence of *two* alleles on their genetic code results in chronic disease and often premature death. We can assume that the latter scenario would not be conductive to passing said traits to any “next generation,” correct? Therefore, if sickle-cell anemia was *not* genetically based, it would die out after just a few generations
Scientists believe the so-called “gay gene” is actually an example of what are termed “Sexually Antagonistic Genes,” which increase genetic fitness in one sex (but not the other). These have been observed in many experiments involving many, many species. The “man loving” allele in question normally targets women, and provides a major selective advantage in the form of an increased reproduction rate. On average, female relatives of gay men have 1.3 times as many children as relatives of straight men. This suggests that the genetic “man loving” code can be passed from *women* to both women *and* men, with widely different affects depending on how it manifests; it is thus an example of balanced polymorphism. Viola: genetically-based homosexuality. =)

I’m sorry for the late reply; college can be a real pain. >_<
The idea of a “gay gene” is relatively new, being first proposed in 1993, though more recent research strongly supports it. This article in the Washington Post has links to the reports in question, including ones from The Guardian and The Royal Society: http://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/06/04/the-science-of-sexuality-how-our-genes-make-us-gay-or-straight/. It is a "theory" in the same way Relativity and Evolution are; that is, it has been supported through continued research and experimentation. Scientists believe several different factors affect sexual orientation, but generally agree that genes are at least part of the story.

You know what I want to know?
Does that extra 30% of children in the female relatives of gay men make up the lost plethora of children never born due to the attitude of these men?
Is a reverse trend valid for male relatives of homosexual men?(30% less children)
Is this trend valid for relatives of lesbians too?

By the way, for the record – just because something is genetics-based, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s desirable.
On the other hand, even if 90% of people stopped reproducing completely, there would be enough humans on earth to make up a tremendous gene pool still, so whoever argues with the “they don’t make baybeez” card is speaking in terms of single rice grains in a sac.
As long as gay people work, pay their taxes, or do something else for humanity, and are not just leeching on their peers, I don’t see how it matters.
No one should let their sexuality define them as a human being, nor should others bring judgment on them due to something that’s so ridiculously harmless.

And if gayness really is so harmful, it’ll eventually die out.

*pushes “Act like the Universe” button*
You should experiment with non-traditional word boxes. The non-traditional panel borders don’t go well with these square things 😀

>Minor Character

Kylar is a main protagonist, along with Sesame,Claire,Kibbles,Farron and Mason – he plays a huge role in the story.
He isn’t the only main character who isn’t straight either.

Also I am kind of disappointed in your behavior, you seemed cool up until this point. That was a huge unwarranted amount of hostility.

Wait what? Kylar isn’t the only one? This is news to me. Who else is gay?

I admit, you touched a sensitive spot when you made this page. Normally, I don’t understand discrimination (racism, etc.) and prefer never to.

The only discrimination I understand is situational…
A man prefers a woman for his life-mate, a woman prefers a man for her life-mate.

Any other discrimination is utter stupidity to me. Thus, you could say my attitude on this makes me stupid under my own definition, though it follows when you consider the only discrimination I choose to accept.

So you make a exception to your anti-discrimination list? I can smell the arrogance on you.

funny, that is one trait I have never been accused of (that I know of).

Also, you will note I did NOT exclude myself entirely. I just gave a(an) reason (excuse) for the attitude.

Some people may think it is stupid to discriminate based on sexual orientation, but I don’t. I prefer (purposely) to never understand the lifestyle any more than I understand the stupidity of discrimination based on skin color, bone structure, or any number of things the individual never had a say in.

Homosexuality is a choice. When you prove to me 100% it isn’t a choice, I’ll consider changing. Don’t expect me to EVER accept it.

While I’ll slightly agree that not every webcomic needs homosexual relationships, it also helps diversify the characters and help them stand out.

It’s absolutely shallow, however, to hate a group of people’s sexual preferences all together. Sure, it’s not what nature intended, as reproduction is a very important thing to species, but considering how common a thing it actually is, it’s anything but unnatural at this point. Hell, I’m asexual, which admittingly makes me much more unnatural than someone who likes their own gender. Not that I have a problem with my own sexuality.

People can do whatever the hell they want with their lives. You’re not gonna make many friends if you shit on other people’s lifestyles like this…

I personally have nothing against other people’s sexual preferences, the only thing I can’t stand is the PDA,

PDA? Personal Digital Assistant?

lol, Public Display of Affection

it only bugs me if its the PDA where they go overboard with it

so in other words, your ok with people being gay but you disapprove of anyone, no matter what sexual preference, doing something such as making out in public? eh, to each their own in that case. It’s known that such displays of affection in public can make others feel uncomfortable psychologically…also, said action was used to avoid suspicion from enemy agents in a certain recent Marvel comics based film.

Oh pleeeease tell me Kylar is a large ham

*checks Urban Dictionary* A ham as in.. a badass? Or ham as in a goofball?

Large Ham, according to my knowledge from TV tropes it means someone who acts over the top like a villain that wants to really stand out. Or more simply someone with a large booming voice…

What if the King actually reads your comic? It won’t be a secret anymore…

And,,,,, well, I wanna see Kylar and Farron have to share a bed lol… you know, for financial matters?
